Families do not stop becoming a carer once a relative moves into 'Supported Living' or a 'Care Home' and often still give a huge amount of emotional and care support over and above what paid support staff can ever give.
Taking to medical appointments, keeping in touch with family and friends, support to make decisions, re-assuring if worried. It is important to realise you are still a carer, even though you may not be the main carer. By giving a few hours a week to support your loved one you are filling an important role and one that the government recognises within the new Care Act.
We hold the Carers' Group meetings on the first Wednesday of each month, one month in the afternoon and the following month in the evening to give more carers the opportunity to meet up.
The evening meetings are held at Sessions House, facilitated by Mary Macan, and the afternoon meetings are held at Home Farm Trust (HFT) facilitated by Gill Wood.
We want carers to have to oportunity to meet up with other carers, to share information and experiences, and to discuss relavent issues or any worries or concerns.
We will continue to invite speakers on subjects of interest but would welcome ideas and suggestions from you.
